Welcome...

You'll feel right at home in Richland County when you visit our businesses, restaurants, lodging, events, and attractions.  That's because the people here are warm and inviting... we are genuinely glad that you've come to the Richland area.  In addition, Richland County is at the center of scenic Southwest Wisconsin, a land filled with many wonders of nature and history, so we're confident you'll have a wonderful visit.

The city has several motels, and there are at least a dozen other delightful places to stay throughout Richland County.

More than 20 restaurants dot the community and the county.  They range from some of the most popular food chains to local "flavor" such as "Cafe Fiesta Fe," "Papa's Donuts," and "Mellem's Fish House."

.Frank Lloyd Wright, widely recognized as the greatest architect of the 20th century, was born here in Richland Center and later lived only a few miles away in Spring Green. There he built Taliesin, his famed home, along with several other homes. He also built a unique warehouse in Richland Center that stands out as one of his early works and the only remaining structure of its kind. The architectural detail of the A.D. German Warehouse is highly reminiscent of a Mayan temple.

.A drive through the Richland County countryside is as picturesque and eye pleasing as they come. Roads wind through green valleys between towering, tree-covered hills. Streams cut a winding path on the valley floors, and widely spaced fine homes and photogenic farms dot the land and climb the hillsides. Here and there you'll run across one of the many natural wonders like Natural Bridge at Rockbridge, Steamboat Rock, Elephant Rock, and Eagle Cave, Wisconsin's largest onyx cave.

.Visitors frequently stop at one of the many fruit farms, cheese factories, craft shops, and artists' studios found in Richland County. They come for everything from antiques and original landscape art to quaint wood carvings, handmade soap or a few pounds of freshly made or aged Wisconsin cheese. Many will stay a night or two in the quiet comfort of one of the county's inviting bed and breakfast establishments, or enjoy a stay at one of the public or privately operated campgrounds.

History buffs can take a driving or walking tour of Richland Center's nearly 30 historic buildings, including the 1889 courthouse, the 1873 Park Hotel, and, of course, Frank Lloyd Wright's Warehouse. The Fred H. Pratt House may fool a few. (It looks like a Wright design, but it is not.)  It's the work of the La Crosse architectural firm of Bentley and Merman, and a good example of the Prairie Schoolhouse design style from about 1920.
