CONTACTS

Main Street is a non-membership organization formed locally in 1992. The Richland Center program was designated by Wisconsin Main Street, and is one of more than 600 Main Street communities in the United States. As such, it is committed to the implementation, progress and development of the designated downtown Main Street district in accordance with the State and National program. Main Street is a tax-exempt charitable organization under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
.
Mainstreet AfterThe Main Street program is a comprehensive downtown economic revitalization program that uses historic preservation as a tool. As the heart and soul of towns and cities across America, Main Street works to create a working, growing and aesthetically pleasing business center for the community. It reinforces and rekindles the economic vitality and values, and is committed to improve all aspects of the downtown area, insuring that it remains a source of pride and representative of our town's unique character.
.
MainstreetA downtown reflects how the community sees itself --- a critical factor in industrial business retention and recruitment efforts. It provides a significant portion of the community's tax base, and is an indispensable shopping and service center, as well as the historic core of the city. It represents a vast amount of public and private investment, the government center, a tourist draw, and most importantly, provides a sense of community and place.
.
The Wisconsin Main Street program started in 1988. Communities compete for selection in the program, and must meet a list of criteria to be considered that indicate both a public and private commitment to the program, as well as an historic identity and the capacity to successfully implement the program. It requires strong management and leadership, and a comprehensive, long-term commitment from the community.

Main Street Programs operate on a 4-Point Approach:
.
.

1. Organization - fundraising, volunteer development, and public relations;

2. Promotion - retail events, special events, and image development;

3. Design - building improvements, public improvements, signage, visual merchandising and historic preservation planning.

4. Economic Restructuring - market analysis, business development (retention, expansion, recruitment) and real estate development.

The Richland Main Street Program has incorporated two additional points that reflect local community goals and objectives. They are:

.

5. Agriculture; and

6. Tourism.

Each of the points above are supported by a working committee, which is led by a member of the Board. Committee members coordinate activities and events that relate to their area of responsibility to ensure that the Program's goals and objectives are met.

The Richland Center DepotRichland Center Depot
This abandoned historical building was completely renovated and put back into use late in 2001. The project was a collaborative effort between Main Street, the City of Richland Center and community volunteers and contributors. It is now a Visitor Center and the home of the Richland Area Chamber of Commerce and Main Street Partnership.
