Trout Fishing - We have 267 miles of Class I and Class II Trout Streams here in Richland County... this is where they get the trout to stock other streams all over the state!  Check the Wisconsin DNR guide books available at the Visitor Center for detailed information on trout fishing in Richland County's cold-water streams. Public easements and beautiful surroundings make for an excellent fishing experience, and guided tours are available.

Canoeing - If you're searching for peacefulness and a close up look at Wisconsin's wildlife, you'll enjoy miles and miles of winding water and scenic beauty. The lower Wisconsin River is large, relatively swift-moving, and surrounded by hidden backwaters to explore. The Kickapoo River is famous for its winding course and a favorite of paddlers.  The Pine River winds through valleys, under a natural bridge, and boasts scenic views of bluffs and lowlands as it meanders south to the Wisconsin River, at some points paralleling the Pine River Recreation Trail.

Biking in Richland CountyBiking - The Pine River Recreation Trail stretches from Richland Center to Lone Rock.  In the county the trail is located on an abandoned railroad bed and is constructed of well-compacted pea gravel. The trail is well maintained by County and City Park departments. In the City of Richland Center, the trail is located on top of the Pine River dike and has an asphalt surface. It is 15.8 miles one way. The trail parallels the Pine River.  It's open year-round and is a favorite of hikers, and bikers, as well as snowmobiles in winter. (See a map of the trail.)

The Ocooch Mountain Fall Bicycle Tour (held in early October), takes riders through some of the most picturesque and colorful parts of Richland County at the height of our fall color season. Riders are greeted and refreshed at area apple orchards along the way.

Birding - Eagles, ducks, cranes and a wide variety of song and game birds dot the Richland County landscape. Rivers and streams provide the perfect habitat for birds and plants. High bluffs and wooded ridges are home to bald eagles, as well as migration paths for a wide variety of species. Bring binoculars and a favorite bird book.

Camping, canoe rental, golf, horse back riding and other recreational information for the area is available at the Richland Area Visitor Center (608-647-6205).

A Wagon Train winds through Richland County for five days in June, arriving in Richland Center during the Wisconsin High School Rodeo Finals. Up to 50 wagons and 100 saddle horses take part.

Snowmobiling in Richland County offers 134 miles of groomed trails. Guide maps are available through the Richland Area Visitor Center (608-647-6205).
